World Food Programme Receives P4.5M from Pizza Hut & Taco Bell with Diether Ocampo

Pizza Hut and Taco Bell recently turned over more than 4.5 million pesos for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to support its school feeding programme in Mindanao. With advocate Diether Ocampo, the check was given in a ceremony this morning at SM Araneta's Pizza Hut branch.

Launched four months ago since November 2010, this is Pizza Hut and Taco Bell's fourth annual World Hunger Relief campaign in the Philippines.

Over 165 restaurants in the country raised funds for WFP’s Emergency School Feeding programme, which aimed to provide nutritious meals to 80,000 elementary school children.

114 percent higher than last year's campaign, The 4.5 million peso donation can translate into 450,000 meals for the children in conflictaffected areas of Central Mindanao..

Celebrity endorser Diether Ocampo and Philippine Pizza, Inc. Chief Operating Officer Lars Peterson turned over the check to WFP Country Director and Representative Stephen Anderson.

Diether confessed that he himself has experienced poverty and hunger in the younger years of his life prior to becoming a celebrity and therefore can relate to what the children are going through.
WFP is supporting the process of bringing children back to school after years of displacement and I wish for their continued success in their fight against hunger,” adds 'Diet', who himself volunteered to be part of the World Hunger Relief campaign.

In the 60-day fundraising campaign, Pizza Hut customers who donated P40 received a Christmas card autographed by the restaurant’s celebrity endorser Diether Ocampo. With every order of the Pizza Hut WFP Feast or the Taco Bell Nachos Bell Grande combo meal during the campaign period, customers contributed P10 to the cause. Many other generous customers filled the WFP canisters on store counters nationwide.
